SiP018 – Guidance on Safety Induction and Training in Ports

Safety in ports guidance | |

This guidance has been collectively produced by the ports industry with the support of the Health and Safety Executive.

It is intended for companies operating in the UK ports industry with a duty of care and responsibility for the safe design, construction, operation, management and maintenance of ports and terminal facilities and management of port and terminal activities. It will also be useful to employees and their representatives.

Following the guidance is not compulsory and you are free to take other action. But if you do follow the guidance you will normally be doing enough to comply with the law. Health and safety inspectors seek to secure compliance with the law and may refer to this guidance. If the guidance goes beyond compliance, then this will be clearly identified.

PSS guidance includes links to external sites where it is deemed an appropriate and useful addition to the guidance. PSS is not responsible for, and cannot guarantee the accuracy of, information on sites that it does not manage.

PLEASE NOTE: This SiP is available in ‘Draft’ form. This reflects the level of development achieved by the past PSS ‘Port Skills and Safety Group’ (PSSG) alongside Unite the Union, and the incorporation of follow-on comments from the Health and Safety Executive. This SiP is for reference only.
